Emercy is operated on a daily basis by its volunteer staff. Each quarter, the board of directors meets to discuss Emercy's operations, financial details, and future. Emercy's board is composed of various members of the community, all of whom are deeply involved with God, their family, their church, and the community. Since Emercy is an inter-denominational organization, the board members have been chosen from various denominations, and all bring diverse talents and abilities to the table.

Joshua Jones
Executive Director and Founder

Joshua Jones has served as the Executive Director and Founder since Emercy's start in 2000. Joshua has served on the mission field for the last 9 years in over 15 countries while focusing his efforts in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Peru. He received his degree in Business Management from the University of Alabama. He is currently the director of Emercy's Tuscaloosa office and oversees all Latin American projects.

Pete Beck
Board of Directors

Pete was born in 1928 and was educated at the University of Alabama where he graduated in 1953 with a degree in Law. At 40 years old the Lord saved him and called him into the ministry. In 1972 he founded Maranatha Church in Greensboro, N.C. and served as its pastor for over twenty years. Then, in 1994, God called him out of pastoral ministry to pursue the apostolic calling on his life

Over the years, Pete has been directly involved in planting four churches that are still growing. He has been involved additionally in an apostolic fatherly role to many other churches both in the U.S. and overseas. For the past twenty-five years he has traveled extensively in the U.S. and overseas helping build the body of Christ.

   

Dr. Charles Davis
Board of Directors

Dr. Davis has served as pastor, missionary, missions executive, university teacher, university administrator and community college president. Charles and his wife, Frances, now live in Northport, AL.  In recent years they have traveled extensively ministering to missionaries serving in difficult places.

   

 

Robert Griffith, M.D.
Board of Directors

Robert Griffith committed his life to Christ as he completed high school in Birmingham. During 4 years at the University of Alabama, he was grounded in his walk through the Navigators ministry. After completing Medical school and a Dermatology residency, he and his wife, Susan, moved to Tuscaloosa with their 2 children in 1989. He now serves as an elder at Grace Church and has participated in several short term missions in inner city Philadelphia, Africa and Central America.

   

Peter Kraus
Board of Directors

Peter Kraus is passionate about missions.  He joins the Emercy team with a vision for growth and experience in marketing strategy and financial management. Peter has developed a global corporate travel and expense management solution now used by over 1600 customers in 91 countries.  He has also founded a real estate development company in 1997 which he currently manages with his brothers.

   

John Smith, M.D.
Board of Directors

John Smith, born 1953, grew up on a farm in Cullman, went to Samford University, then University of South Alabama College of Medicine, then Family Practice Residency in Montgomery, then went into practice with David Wilson M.D. in Oneonta, Alabama. By God's grace they're still in practice together since 1982.
John is married to Becky (Wright) Smith since1976, and has had 12 children, 11 living. John, Becky, and the 7 oldest children have made mission trips to various places, mostly Russia and Nicaragua. Their goal is to have all of their children, and their future generations saved and serving God from now until the Lord comes to take His bride to Heaven. John's favorite Bible verse is 2 Corinthians 5:21 "For He(GOD) hath made Him (JESUS) to be sin for us, (HE) who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him."
John's father is Dr. Melvin Smith, (PhD Marketing), who taught at Samford. His mom is Roberta Smith M.A. who taught in Cullman. His brothers, Robert Smith M.D. who practices in Blountsville, Ala. Joe Smith, M.S. who is a business consultant in Cullman, and Dr. Charles Smith, (PhD History), who teaches in Laredo (Texas) State University.
